Moving Services: Finding a Company You Can Trust

Did you know that moving homes is among the top five most common stress causers, right after death and divorce? Shocking, right? But as much as it may seem unbelievable, packing all your belongings, transporting them to your new place and then unpacking everything is a real hassle. And not because there may be billion things to pack, but because everything needs to be packed properly so there is no damage. Moving does not mean simply tossing things in boxes – there’s much more to it. Having the right supplies is also of paramount importance. Add to this the short time period to switch homes and you’ve got the winning formula for mental strain.

Fortunately, there is a solution for all these nagging problems – hiring a moving company! But in order to find reputable moving services, you should not solely rely on Google’s top results. Are you ready to entrust just any stranger with your belongings? It’s a dishonest world we live in and if not prepared, you could easily become a victim of a con scheme. So, invest some time and do your homework before you hire anybody.

Get as much information about the top companies that you’re considering, such as the company’s full name, company address, phone numbers, how long they have been in business, e-mail address and license numbers. And don’t forget to read their customers reviews – this is one of the best ways to find out how reliable a company is.

Then, select three service providers to come to your house and do an in-home estimate, so you can choose the best one. If a company doesn’t agree on this you might as well forget about that one as they’re showing they’re not reliable from the very beginning. It is also a good idea to visit the company’s office to take a look at their vehicles and storage facilities. Make sure their vehicles are permanently marked with the company’s name – some movers might show up on the day of the moving with a magnetic sign attached to the door of a rental vehicle, so it’s important to find out as much as you can ahead of time.

Ask questions about the differences in the prices. That is important because different moving services give their estimate based on what they see in your home, or based on the amount of insurance they included, or based on the evaluation of your belongings. And remember: never sign a blank paper or paperwork that hasn’t been fully explained. Make sure you read the entire document and totally understand it. A reliable company won’t bother waiting.

And last but not least, check the company’s insurance details. Every mover should provide a basic insurance protection. However, that is not a great coverage if you own very expensive belongings. In such case, you should consider getting an additional policy to protect your pricey items. And when it comes to the smaller valuables like jewelry as well as important paperwork, move them yourself.
