English Standard Version Bible: A Fine Reading that Will Enrich Your Life

Even though the world has advanced greatly and we see new innovations day in and day out, there are still things that are so deep-rooted that it seems no matter how further we find ourselves in the technological era, there are still core things we have to pay more attention to. For instance, it somehow remained part of our nature to look more into differences rather than things that unite us. This can be seen in the way we dress, eat, shop, including the way we pray. Faith is universal, and yet somehow we still manage to give way to differences which can even be seen in the various churches, synagogues and mosques.

This kind of division is getting manifested in Christianity itself, in the variety of rites in all the churches, monasteries and cathedrals. Though it seems easy to fall in the self-imposed trap, we should focus more on what makes us alike with one another and what to do to get through life in a manner that is full of value which brings us back to the base of the beliefs of our existence, contained in the book of books: the Bible. The reason this book is incomparable with any other book you’ll come across and makes for unmatched fine reading (yes, even with bestsellers), is the way it conveys God’s word, His wisdom and His love. Throughout the centuries it has undergone some changes because of the changing nature of language, what was readable for people living in the Dark Ages is hardly understandable for modern day people.

Translations make the word of God easily comprehensible, however, depending on the translator and the way the process is carried out, much of the content can be lost. A lot has changed since the days of King James and his Bible version, but there are still versions that have managed to preserve the Bible’s originality, one of which is certainly the English Standard Version (ESV). Following the example of the 1971 edition, the Revised Standard Version (RSV), and serving as its own revision, the ESV is translated in an “essentially literal” manner.

Rather than an interpretive “thought-for-thought” version, it focuses on a “word-for-word” translation so that the meaning is preserved in its originality as much as possible despite the differences in grammar, idioms and syntax between the original languages and present day English. As such, the English Standard Version has become of great importance as it can serve for both a devotional and an academic in-depth study, public reading as much as it is for making its way in your home library and bedtime reading. Many new editions contain insightful charts, essays and maps accompanying the biblical scripture, so you can get a clear notion of where certain historic events took place.

This version is a real treasure to have that will enrich your life and let you in on its secrets regardless of whether you are a Christian or a person devoted to another religion since God unites us all through His immense love. Make the Bible your daily reading and see your life change for the better.
