Interiors and Decorating: What Plants and Personality Have Got to Do with It
Homes speak volumes about their inhabitants. There are those that immediately make you feel comfortable upon entering, spreading some pleasant vibe be it for the use of certain aromas, or the choice of furniture and the way it’s arranged, others make you confused with their own confusion expressed by the mix of styles or piles of objects. Some are passionate about antiques, preferring the style of bygone eras, others go for a more up to date look, either modern with its steering towards use of more natural materials or minimalist, eliminating anything and everything that is considered excessive. And then there was mine, not sure in which group it actually belonged.
Since I had to take to the road more often than not thanks to job prospects, I couldn’t adopt a kind of interior design that would require me to invest in it both financially and creatively. After battling the tendency towards messiness with a few failures, though science seems to give green light to a messy room , unnoticeably I was headed for minimalism. I had piles of things to dispose of, many of which I wasn’t aware I had so it made me think I actually had a more undiscovered floor than that of the ocean.
The new interior I ended up with had plenty of open space, and though it appeared to require less work whenever it was time for tidying up, it was rather empty. I wonder the kind of impression people would have had upon entering: void pointing out that I’m a cold, lonely person, the opposite of a hoarder – a declutterer? Whichever the opinions, I managed to realise it on time and felt my home needed the beauty of nature to make it feel warm. Being as much of a plant killer as Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw, I was afraid of welcoming plants in my life. That was until I stumbled upon the ingenious and stylish self water pot.
Having a built-in reservoir that allows for plants to get their much needed water through the roots sure helps a lot with people like me who simply have a difficulty keeping up with the watering chores. Thanks to genius minds that came up with the self water pot product, people like me can make way for some greenery in their homes. Not only did I use them to cover up unused corners and bring some more colour to contrast the white walls with a variety of colourful flowers, but I also created my own urban garden. Now I have home-grown fresh produce whenever I decide to cook at home.
Whether you’re up for the older styles, or are keen on sticking to the new ones, adding some plants here and there can only do you good. I know now thanks to them my home looks more lively and inviting. What is your home saying about you and can you add more plants to implement some changes?
